{sunrise this morning, Bethany Beach, Delaware} Today is my 6-year blogiversary.  I still remember the day I decided to begin blogging about my story. I started a free WordPress.com blog using a domain name I had purchased. I remember pausing before hitting “submit” on bipolarmomlife.com, thinking for a moment about the brand I was about to create. It was intentional. I wanted other moms out there, other families dealing with bipolar disorder and parenting, to know that they wer…

People have days when they are down, broken and just not feeling all that happy.

That’s OK, you must have days like this, otherwise how would you know when you are content. You must to have something to contrast your pleasure with. Precisely what is black without white?

Although you understand that feeling down is a part of life, let’s make an effort to make it a small part of life.

With that said, below are a few tips to help you feel better when you are feeling down in the dumps. They are easy to do, simple to practice each day and so they work!

1. Stand up straight, sit up straight. When your body is in alignment your energy can flow and when your body energy is flowing freely, you can flow.

2. Smile! Certainly, just smile. Easy to do and effective.

3. Repeat positive affirmations. Points like “I feel good”, “Positive energy goes through my body”, “I see the good in all”.

4. Pay attention to some music that you enjoy. It doesn’t have to be anything specific, just something you like. Certain types of music work cooler than others, but experiment and find out what works for you. Studies have shown that Classical music plus new age music work best.

5. Consider some time out for yourself, chill and read a nice book, do something for yourself.

6. Meditate. Deep breathing is a fantastic habit to develop. It will serve you in all that you simply do. If you are one who has a hard time sitting still, then try some special meditation CDs that cajole your brain into the meditative state. Just seek out “Meditation music” on Google or Yahoo and explore.

Each of our outside work is simply a mirror of our inside person. Remember there is no reality just your perception of it. Use this truth to your benefit. Whenever you are feeling down, know that it is all in your head and you do have the capacity to overcome your perception.

These tips will lift you up when you are down, but don’t just use them when you are feeling sad. Try to practice them everyday, make them a habit. You will be surprised at how these simple exercises will keep out the rainy days away.

On a final take note, if you are in a serious depression that you can’t seem to shake, please go see a doctor. This is your life and don’t take any chances.
