“Only to the extent that we expose ourselves over and over to annihilation can that which is indestructible be found in us.”

When Things Fall Apart: Tibetan Buddhist Nun and Teacher Pema Chödrön on Transformation Through Difficult Times

In every life, there comes a time …

A lot of people have days when they are down, worn out and just not feeling quiet happy.

That’s OK, you must have days like this, otherwise how would you know when you are happy. You must to have something to contrast your joy with. Precisely what is black without white?

While you understand that feeling down is a part of life, let’s make an effort to make it a small part of life.

With that said, below are a few guidelines to help you feel better while you are feeling down in the hole. They are simple to do, simple to practice each day and so they work!

1. Stand up straight, sit up straight. When your body is in alignment your energy can flow and when your energy is flowing nicely, you can flow.

2. Smile! Yes, just smile. Simple to do and effective.

3. Repeat positive affirmations. Points like “I feel good”, “Positive energy flows through my body”, “I start to see the good in all”.

4. Pay attention to some music that you like. It doesn’t have to be anything specific, just music you enjoy. Certain types of music work better than other music, but experiment and see what works for you. Studies have shown that Classical music and new age music work great.

5. Have some time out for yourself, chill and read a nice book, make a move for yourself.

6. Meditate. Meditation is an outstanding habit to develop. It will serve you in all with what you do. In the event you are one who has difficulty sitting still, then try some special meditation CDs that entice your brain in to the meditative state. Just search for “Meditation music” on Google or Yahoo and explore.

Our outside work is simply a mirror of our inside person. Don’t forget there is no reality just your perception of it. Use this truth to your advantage. Whenever you are sad, realize that it is all in your thoughts and you do have the capacity to change your perception.

These tips will lift you up if you are down, but do not just use them when you are feeling sad. Try to practice them each and everyday, make them a habit. You will be surprised at how these easy exercises will keep the rainy days away.

On a final note, if you are in a serious depression that you can’t appear to shake, please go see a doctor. This really is your life and don’t take a chance.
